The Taipei City Government has outlined the annual budget for performing safety inspection and evaluation for the old, damaged bridges and culverts in the city. The scope of works includes visual inspection, non-destructive inspection tests, seismic resistance capability evaluations as well as car capacity load test. In addition to inspections and evaluations, retrofitting works are also carried out on those bridges which seismic resistance or carrying capacity is deemed insufficient. Performed records include :1997：ChenMei Bridge, etc: 4 bridges, 1998：Waishuangxi Bridge, etc: 5 bridges, 2001：Xinsheng viaduct, etc: 8 bridges, 2003：HwaChung Bridge, HsinHai tunnel, etc: 13 bridges.
