Taiwan Provincial Highway No. 20 (82k +500 ~ 95k +506) Typhoon Morakot Disaster Reconstruction Project
The rainstorms from Marakot Typhoon in 2009 have caused an estimate of 19.5 billion loss; particularly on traffic roads and farms. In order to maintain the smooth traffic of Taoyuan area in Kaohsiung, the government conducted reconstruction work of many roads. TYLIN was responsible for the reconstruction design of section 82k+500~95k+506 of Provincial Highway No. 20. The rains caused hillside erosion and collapses at 12 spots. Since these collapsed areas belong to the water conservation area, their reconstruction took priority. The project started construction downstream of the original location in order to avoid potential unstable areas. Due to the serious damages caused to the road, it was decided to adopt a large span bridge as a replacement. Owing to the project was located at a mountain area, smaller radiuses of curvature were used to improve the alignment. The project was divided into five tenders with total of 1.4 billion in construction fees.
