In order to release the traffic congestion on Chun-Shan Freeway and meet the heavy traffic acquirement of Taiwan North Zone, the government had actively planned, designed, and constructed the North Zone Second Freeway since 1986, and commissioned T.Y.Lin Taiwan International to do the construction supervision and technology consultation service for Hsintien to Chun-ho Section in 1990, including four parts as the following:
(1) Bitten Bridge:The total length is about 800m with 160m main span, made of prestressed concrete,designed by T.Y.Lin International, combined with two traditional trait of anti-stress and prestressed anti-stretch. This long span arch bridge is very famous in the Far East. (2) Bitten Tunnel: Next to Bitten Bridge, total length 520m, 14m wide, two tubes for two way traffic with 3 lanes each way, a kind of curved large highway tunnel. (3) Ankang Interchange: Located on the left bank of Hsintien Creek in Hsintien Ankang, on the north, by way of the Ankang bridge, connected with Chungyang Road of Hsintien; on the south, by way of the ramp, connected with Ankang Road leading to Ankang area. Belongs to compound interchange type, including trumpet A type of Chungyang Road, half-direct Y type of Ankang Road, and diamond type of on and off ramps. (4) AnKang bridge: A prestressed concrete box girder and cast-in-place bridge, designed by T.Y.Lin International, 400m total long with 40m each span, crossing over Hsintien Creek, is an access road of AnKen to Chungyan Road Hsintien and Huanho Expressway.
