1. to hit it off (一拍即合、很投緣)
英文意思：to become friendly with someone (與某人成為好朋友)
這句話是指二人一見如故，彼此非常投緣，馬上變成好朋友。
例如：
My brother and my boyfriend hit it off right from the start.
我哥哥和我的男友兩人一見如故。
Judy and her younger sister have never hit it off.
茱蒂和她的妹妹一向就合不來
William met Judy at a party. They hit it off.
威廉和朱蒂在一聚會中相識，兩人很投緣。
2. when pig fly (門都沒有、不可能發生)
英文意思：it will never happen (這是不可能發生的是)
圖：當豬飛起來時
當豬飛起來時，聽起來就是不對勁，什麼時候豬也長上了翅膀了呢？但是，對於說英語，這句話沒有任何問題。豬可不能飛起來！這是不可能的事，而這正是這個成語的意思。
例如，
"Do you think Mary will quit her job now that she's pregnant？
"瑪莉現在懷孕了將辭職”
"Yeah, when pigs fly！There is no way she is giving up her career！
“瑪莉絕對不可能辭職，她絕不可能放棄工作。”
“Would you go on a date with me ?
妳願意跟我約會嗎？
“ Sure, I’ll go out with you when pigs fly.
你啊，門都沒有。
3. deadwood(米蟲、朽木、沒用的東西，沒用的人)
英文意思：people or thing that are useless or no longer needed.(人或物，已經沒有用了，或不再需要。)
我們常以朽木來形容不知悔改或無藥可救之人，英文用deadwood，來指那些不事生產，好吃懶做的米蟲。
例如：
“Did you hear about the company’s new personnel policy? They’re firing a lot of people.”
“你聽說公司新的人事政策嗎？他們要裁員很多人”。
“Yes, the boss wants to get rid of the deadwood.”
“對啊，老闆想要把那些米蟲，淘汰掉。
4. Indian summer(秋老虎)
英文意思：hot weather in autumn(秋天的熱天氣)
Indian summer是指"秋老虎"、"小陽春"，在"深秋季節的一段暖和天氣"，英文叫"India Summer"。"Indian Summer"指秋天的一段暖和、乾燥的天氣，往往出現在9月下旬、10月和11月，有時候也會出現在8月或12月，愛倫-坡曾把它稱作 "strange interregnum occurring in autumn"(奇怪的中斷季節) 。
傳說印地安人，經常會答應你作某事情，又突然收回去，讓人不知所措，有被耍的感覺，就好像涼爽的秋天突然來了大陽光，像夏天一樣的天氣，讓人不知所措。
例如：
Why is it so hot in mid-October?
(為什麼十月中，天氣還這麼熱？)
I guess it’s just an India Summer.
(我想應該正是秋老虎發威吧！)
5. a know-it -all(自以為博學多聞的人)
英文意思：a person who acts as though he/she knows everthing.(一個人他假裝什麼都懂。)
例如：
"I see what you mean" said the class know-it-all. "But how can you tell that it's not robert browning?"
“我明白你的意思，”班上的萬事通說。“但是你怎麼說那就不是羅伯特•白朗寧呢？”
You sound like mr know-it-all.
你好象萬事通似的。
My brother-in-law is an obnoxious know-it-all.
我的姐夫是個討人厭的自以為是萬事通的傢伙。
