All for Jakarta—a note on the 10th anniversary of ruangrupa: Decompression#10, Expanding the Space and Public

ABSTRACT The article focuses on ruangrupa as an artist initiative in Jakarta engaging with the issues of the urban space through the medium of visual arts. It reflects on the program Decompression #10: Expanding the Space and the Public, a celebration of the 10th anniversary of ruangrupa, as a way for the collective to evaluate their political ideas and social roles within the urban context.

Author’s biography
Mirwan Andan was born in Watampone, South Sulawesi, Indonesia in November 10th, 1980. Studied in Islamic Boarding School for 6 years in Watampone and Makassar. From 1999-2004 studied in University of Hasanuddin, Makassar, majoring French Literature. Currently studying Political Science in University Of Indonesia, Jakarta, focusing Comparative Politics since 2008, while working in ruangrupa as researcher and developer since 2007, and also involve much as freelance researcher in social, politics, mass media and cultural issues. His writing appears in Indonesian Film Catalogue (2008) and City Stickers (2008).
