一个徒步旅游的人，在沙漠中旅行，遇到了一个非常沮丧的女人孤独地站着。他问她:「你是谁?」女回答:「我叫“真实”。」，他进一步问：「那为什么原因，妳离开热闹的都市，孤零零地住在这个荒野。」她回答说：「因为从前虚伪很少，但现在所有的人，无论听到或说出的话，都是虚伪。」
译者评论：每一个人小时候都是诚实的孩子，但长大后，在社会耳濡目染之下，学会说谎。据说从前的人较朴实，说话较真诚，现代的人要应付这个花花世界，因此学会说谎。请你在夜深人静自思：你（妳）多久没有遇见“真实”。
Truth and the traveler
A wayfaring Man, traveling in the desert, met a woman standing alone and terribly dejected. He inquired of her, "Who are you?" "My name is Truth," she replied, "And for what cause," he asked, "Have you left the city, to dwell alone here in the wilderness?" She made answer, "Because in former times falsehood was with few, but is now with all men, whether you would hear or speak."
