一個徒步旅遊的人，在沙漠中旅行，遇到了一個非常沮喪的女人孤獨地站著。他問她:「你是誰?」女回答:「我叫“真實”。」，他進一步問：「那為什麼原因，妳離開熱鬧的都市，孤零零地住在這個荒野。」她回答說：「因為從前虛偽很少，但現在所有的人，無論聽到或說出的話，都是虛偽。」
譯者評論：每一個人小時候都是誠實的孩子，但長大後，在社會耳濡目染之下，學會說謊。據說從前的人較樸實，說話較真誠，現代的人要應付這個花花世界，因此學會說謊。請你在夜深人靜自思：你（妳）多久沒有遇見“真實”。
Truth and the traveler
A wayfaring Man, traveling in the desert, met a woman standing alone and terribly dejected. He inquired of her, "Who are you?" "My name is Truth," she replied, "And for what cause," he asked, "Have you left the city, to dwell alone here in the wilderness?" She made answer, "Because in former times falsehood was with few, but is now with all men, whether you would hear or speak."
