蚂蚁们问牠:「为什么你不在夏天时储存粮食?」
蚱蜢回答:「我每天忙着唱歌，根本没由有多余时间。」
蚂蚁们听了嘲笑它，说：「如果你笨到在整个夏天，都在唱歌，你必定可以在冬季时整天跳舞，不必吃晚餐就上床睡觉。」
译者评论：轻松、快乐的日子人人想过。问题是每个人都应该未雨绸缪，要有足够填饱肚子的能力。不要像蚱蜢一样，夏天时整天玩乐，冬天时才发现没有粮食可吃。
The ants and the grasshopper
The ants were employing a fine winter's day in drying grain collected in the summer time.
A Grasshopper, perishing with famine, passed by and earnestly begged for a little food.
The ants enquired of him. "Why did you not treasure up food during the summer?" He replied, "I had not leisure enough. I passed the days in singing."
They then said in derision: "If you were foolish enough to sing all the summer, you must dance supperless to bed in the winter."
