'Before Masao and after Masao’: remembering and celebrating the life and work of Masao Miyoshi (1928-2009)
Rob WILSON
When Paul Bové emailed me in October and suggested we hold a panel devoted to Masao Miyoshi at the boundary 2 editorial meeting in Pittsburgh— one bleak and blustery Saturday this fall— he advised, “we can have an open session in which people make comments on him, a sort of quiet memorial.” So I would like to start this appreciation for the 10th anniversary issue of Inter-Asia Cultural Studies with a multi-voiced portrait I have collaged together of Masao Miyoshi as seen in the life of others from across the generations, suggestive of his far-reaching impact (as teacher and scholar) upon the areas, sites, and fields we labor in, his works and days spreading across the planet.
